The great thing about being at a law school is you are surrounded by smart people. During lunch, I’d say more than 50% of the time, there is always a speaker or organization speaking on various topics. Today, Paul Rusesabagina, who is better known as the guy who Don Cheadle plays in the movie Hotel Rwanda, was here at the law school. Sadly we got out of torts late and the room was full. A police officer was outside saying the room had too many people in it. So I missed out.
Thing v. La Chusa is a case I have to read for torts tonight. It made me laugh. The first thing I thought about was

and La Chusa, the mythical Mexican bird witch we use to hunt for in high school.
I’ve sort of started to outline. We’ve finished chapters in both CivPro and Torts so I thought it would be a good time to get the basics down and see what I have learned. CivPro was interesting today. Our professor, Crump, did a little guitar playing and sang a review song. Normally he’s kind of uptight and tough on us, but he really does want us to learn. He says he’s tough cause he wants the best out of us. I really believe it, but tough is tough and you can’t really like him too much, at least until you get to look back on the class. Otherwise not much has changed. I still don’t enjoy the large amount of reading and how I am clueless on if I am on track or not.
It is week 2 and I’m already tired of reading torts. Torts seems to have an abundance of cases with only partial important content. At the same time the professor is soft spoken and does not put the fear in me like my Civil Procedure professor does. Contracts for me right now seems the best. He uses a casefile method. We are given a main case followed by some related cases. We read the related cases to help argue the main case. I find this to be the most interesting. Civil Procedure seems to be more concerned with the rule. I am however enjoying some random free lunches from assorted organizations that hold lunch meetings. We don’t get lunch everyday, but I’ve gotten 3 meals so far.
I finally met all my professors. Today was day 1 in Torts. It was not as intimidating as CivPro, but it was also less entertaining. I will try and play some basketball today. I need to integrate some physical activity into my weekly schedule. I hope I can get a good game today and break a good sweat.
